I'm helping a buddy compile her first bpw kit. She's already got a wing with cam slots and is now looking for an aluminium backplate and a comfort-style harness (not one piece webbing). She's tiny and lacks bio padding. As she exclusively travels to dive in Southeast Asia and also refuses to check luggage, weight is of the utmost concern following comfort.

I've shortlisted these two for her. Wondering if there are better options I'm not considering?
Harness: Hollis Elite 2 - 770gr
Backplate: Tecline H Mini - 310gr

I use the XS Scuba travel backplate now. Similar to the Tecline travel backplate. I no longer have the Tecline one to check, but if I remember correct, the cam band cutouts in the backplate were not standard and may not fit every wing.

There's a lot of extra stuff on the Hollis and Tecline harnesses.

I have a Sub Gravity aluminum backplate, 26 lb wing and adjustable harness for my travel BCD. I love their adjustable harness, it's clean, simple and no plastic parts and you can add shoulder pads to it if you want.

I have the Hollis Elite 2 harness and like it quite a bit. It's very comfortable and comes in several sizes. I, obviously, have the largest size.

For the backplate - just be sure that either the cam band slots in the wing will line up with the slots in the backplate or plan on getting a single tank adapter. The slots in my wing (Hollis STA35) don't exactly line up with the ScubaForce backplate so I have single tank adapter on it. But, the Elite 2 harness fits it just fine.

Thanks for the advice! As long as the cam slots aren't too far apart, I think I can make it work. Is there any other backplate of similar weight? The other lightest plates Ive found are still around 500gr.

As for the harness, my buddy wants all the extra plastic bits. Those lighter than the Hollis Elite 2 tend to have fewer comfort features.

Note that the Tecline Mini Backplate does not have a standard 11 inch (28cm) spacing for the mounting holes, but, according to a quick measurement based on a picture online, around 22.8cm (a bit more than 9 inches). AFAIK it is specifically designed for the Tecline Peanut 11, which also has this hole spacing.

The most lightweight option with 11 inch spacing would be the Oxycheq Ultra Light Travel Plate (soft plate). But there you need to also make sure the cam band slots align. Not sure whether the grommets in that one can stand the weight of a tank attached via an STA.
