I think there have been some posts on this before. I searched but could not find.

Previously we have flown UK to Houston and then TACA to Roatan. This involved an overnight stay in Houston. At Christmas time you hit the "Christmas shoulder" with prices, especially UK/Houston going through the roof.

Any suggested alternatives? I think someone came up with some useful flights that connect up through somewhere like Cancun. We can get relatively cheap flights to Cancun from the UK.

We're already thinking about December 2008. Sorry about that!

Have tried flight web-sites but they seem to have a lot of problems with this route and suggest stupid things that take 3 days and fly via Seattle or Vancouver and other crazy places.

Flights fom Roatan also route from Miami. Prices ar what they are. If you make landfall in the new world, the farther from Roatan, he longer you're going to fool around. It might be cheaper on that charter bus from Toronto... but is it worth your vacation time?

We have the same problems when we want to go to your backyard playgrounds like the Red Sea and Maldives. It's always a overnight. Unless you're gong to pay the time-zone lords your distant adventures are going to take time. Count your blessings. Compare and overnight in Houston to a high dollar 8 hour stay at Heathrow London.

For all US SCUBABoarders: This is why we find so few Brits in the Galapagos. Travel time is an issue. There are many direct flights from London to the Eastern Caribbean.... from Bahamas South to Trinidad, but there the cnnection ends.

You Limeys do have easy access to one Western Caribbean point: Belize. There are puddle jumpers from there but I'd wager the time elapsed through BCE would be equal or longer to routing through MIA or IAH.

Thanks Roatan Man. Thought that was the situation but sometimes they change schedules and destinations. Us limeys make it through to Roatan one way and another!

Understand what you mean about Red Sea, Maldives destination. Have friends in the States who would like to go there but its awkward.

Looks like overnight in Houston will be the way.

Happy New Year.

I went to the BA site and bought a flight that routed me through Miami on the way out and Houston on the way back, avoiding an overnight stay in the US. This ticket cost only a small amount more than a standard return to either Miami or Houston. I love BA and try to avoid crossing the atlantic with anyone else!

I was then able to buy a ticket with Tac that took me from Miami to Roatan and Roatan to Houston. Total cost $1300.

I wouldn't either bother looking at tickets until July/August, and being a brit living on Roatan for the last 4 years, i have a fair amount of experience in that matter. I wouldn't even be surprised to see some new routes from Roatan to the US in 2008, when a new route is anounced tickets are usually cheap. I think New Olreans may appear as an option as will Los Angeles. Lets wait and see!

Happy New Year all

You might investigate getting to Roatan from Cancun. If that's reasonable it'd be a good option - it's very easy to get really cheap flights to Cancun from UK (but not the other way around).
