I want to buy a diving light and have only read the good reviews for UK stuff. The c8 seems more popular. What is the difference between the C8 and the D8? Which one would you recommend?

Thanks

Amelia

8D cells is a heavy light even underwater it gets heavy to move it around. 8C is a little better but in either case a set of batteries is at least $10. Depending on how much you use it that adds up quick. You might also look at the Eled series.

D8 is huge. Get the C8... or better yet the C8 ELED. Twice the battery life.

Having played with both id say without any hesitation get the D8. Its a bigger torch but underwater the weight of it is not an issue - its very similar to the C8 so not hard to use. You get a good light on both power settings and battery life easily long enough for 2 dives a day even assuming on nearly all the time.

The only thing i dont like about the UK light design is the handly - it slides on and is only secured by tightening a screw to bite into the outer case - i have seen people lose lights when the single screw got loose and the handle fell off usually on hitting the water.

Which ever model you get - make sure its rechargable.

Yes, I should rephrase my question. What are your views between the C8 eled and the D8

I bought a D4 and I'm really happy with it. It's not as huge as the D8, but with NiMH batteries and an 18W bulb, it puts out pretty bright light (especially for the price). Plus you can have either a pistol grip or a lantern grip.

I've dived with people who have the C8 eLED. It's not very bright and the handle is not replaceable, but it's a nice light. The big advantage is durability and very long battery life.

Id say go halogen over eLED light any day - currently the eLED systems arent as bright. They offer long battery life but you need to ask what you need from the light - a very bright beam or a not great beam but long burn time.

If U are interested at the UK eLed series ...................... take the C4 eLed and forget the C8 eLed.

But, check the visibility of where U usually dive before buy Ur lite ...................

All the led lites are not good in the muddy water.

Why? Reports to date have been that the C8 eLED is substantially brighter than the C4 eLED (presumably because the voltage is above the regulator threshold.)

The output of the UK eLed series are :

C8 ~ 5.6W; C4 ~ 4.6W ~ There is no big difference between them.

But, stay inside 5W, U get the double life of the 5W LED.

For me, I made the adapters to change the AA battery to suit for those D & C size batteries.

For example :

D8 ~ 32 AAs
D4 ~ 16 AAs
C8 ~ 16 AAs
C4 ~ 8 AAs
Night Rider D5 ~ 15AAs

Then I can run all my rechargable Ni-Mh AA batteries on all my electrical toys.

In C4 eLed , I can instead the 4 Cs with 8 AAs inside the C4, .........and make them in the same series, then I get the 8*1.2V Voltage => same bright as the output of the C8......................
Same bright, almost 5 Hrs burning time, and free AAs exchanging between all Ur other electrical toys.

With the likely adapter, I can instead the 8 Cs with 16 AAs, .........8 series, 2 bands in parallel.
With the 2500mAh, 1.2V AA, U get 5,000mAh, same Voltage.
More power means longer burning time, and the price of AA is farther cheaper than the price of C's or D's.

But, how should anyone need the 8.5 hrs burning time ?
U have to come back to exchage Ur tank during the normal diving, right ?
(Of course, if anyone need the longer burning time, he can turn the C8 to C4, ..............
4 series, with 4 bands in parallel ~ and get the illumination that extending to almost 17 Hrs .)
