Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find a picture of the deep sea shark to show my wife. I think it's called wobbigong or something like that...
Can someone provide the correct spelling, or better yet a link to some pics?

This is a fish that doesn;t look like a shark at all - If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about

Unfortunately many wobbegongs end up as the fish in "fish & chips" - many diners don't know what they're eating.

Thanks for the link on the Goblin Shark - I'd never heard of it before and it lives right off the coast from where I grew up!

Is this true? Dems a mighty tasty shark then, but I'd rather eat something other than a shark. I think imitation crab is actually skate, but I might be wrong.

I heard this too, I don't remember where, and I'm not sure if it's Australia specific or not. I always thought the "fish" was cod (unless specified). A quick search on the web came up with this blurb:

An imitation crab search came up with this:

Depends. Cod is popular in the UK at least, in Australia, "flake" is often used, which is just a marketing term for shark. Some of it is bycatch (which makes perfect sense), but some is targeted fishing. Several species are utilised.

That's not to say all aussie fish & chips is shark! Ordinary fish (eg whiting) is used as well.
