The pictures were made 5 - 16 July.....look at the beach erosion, road damage, container shipwreck, house damage, etc.

We are waiting on the shipping company (Oceanic in Iloilo) to pump the bunker oil and recover the toxic chemicals.

As for the containers and the ship....we'll see what happens there.

Did you say there's a new wreck dive?
Hope the damage can be repaired quickly. I've been waiting for the resort to open so I ccould plan a trip to dive with you.

Yes, we have a container ship (look at the exposed bow picture) on our Nablag Tugpo divesite. By the way, any on the pictures on the TYPHOON FRANK page can be copied and forwarded to others for personal use only. We are watching the shipping company, the Municipal, and the DENR very closely to see how this catastrophic event is handled. The vessel went down o/a 21 June and nothing has been done yet.

sorry to see damage there BabyD. Is that ship resting on the bottom? What is the toxic chemicals? Have the shipping company taken any responsibility or are they just turning a blind eye?

The ship is resting on the bottom. The ship is upside down (obviously) and the screw is buried into the sandy bottom. It is resting on several coral heads (suppose they are ruined now). The ship had 164 containers and only 60 (or so) have been accounted for so far. The ship contained the usual nasty chemicals (bunker oil, hydraulic fluid, lubricants, etc) and a toxic cargo of toluene di-isocyanate. I understand this is used in pesticides (not 100% sure yet). A salvage outfit has come by to look the vessel but no action as of yet. It seems the whole thing is being handled in a whimsical manner. The vessel does not have a containment barrier around it either. There is a 3 man Coast Guard contingent watching the ship from Mararison Island. The LGU's are not familiar with these sort of things so they are out to lunch on this issue. DENR has not done anything to assist the local fisherfolk either. Situation normal....we'll have to intervene (already started) and push for action or at least tell us what is going on. The biggest fear is the poisoning of the local fish stocks and destruction of the local reef.

Yeah, fish is being brought in from the south because everyone is too afraid to eat fish from the local fishermen. This is so crazy....our local citizens don't trust anyone in government, the shipping company doesn't seem to care.....another frustrating event for all of us.
