Typhoon Drysuit questions and advice

Ok in previous post I have debated going wet or dry. I am a new diver and it is cold here in Maine. I have decided to go dry per the advice and have visited several local dive shops with limited success looking at drysuits. All they seem to have in stock is Henderson Artic Dry II’s for around $1000 (NOS) or expensive DUI’s that will need to be customized to fit properly. Yes I know DUI has a great rep and is a favorite here on Scuba Board. I am pretty sure I want a tri-lam for the versatility and light weight it has. I have found a tri-lam Typhoon Pro front zip suit that appears to be new old stock. I have not been able to find much info on this suit. It appears to be a very well made suit. It also appears to be the same as the current Typhoon CNK Tech suit. The one I have found, currently has not had boots installed nor have any valves been installed, and it has the hard neck and wrist collars already installed. This suit will come with valves, boots and neck and collar rings/seals installed and legs cut to length for $1400. I spent 3 hours today trying on suits and this one seems to fit pretty well and will be customized.

This will be my first suit and I have tried to do as much homework as I can, but I am still a little unsure of a few things and am looking for recommendations on configurations since this is a fairly large purchase and my inexperience with drysuits. I also plan on taking a SSI drysuit course within the next month. I would prefer to wait until after my class to make this purchase but this is NOS and this is the only one that is available that can be customized without spending extra with a front zip.

The questions I have is, about when was this suit make, and what type of valves and footwear should I have installed? Rubber boots or socks and rock boots. And am I paying too much for it? I have never heard of Typhoon. What can I expect from this suit?

Thanks

smorneau,
Greetings from Monterey California.

Your Typhoon Suit is made in England, and from what I understand, Typhoon is one of the largest (if not the largest) producer of dry suits in the world.

My story is similar to yours - my budget did not allow for a DUI, and I purchased a Typhoon NOS.

Although I am not exactly familiar with your precise model, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY would endorse the Typhoon. It's comfortable, it's durable, and I have not had any issues in the last two years. I am using the White's "pajama's" underneath, and I am very happy with those as well. I can move around without feeling too bulky.

Hope this helps.
