Question - Who knows about TDI and / or SDI?

I have several PADI and SSI certifications, but an instructor recently told me about these two organizations. I'm looking to become a dive instructor + , but would like not to have to be tied down to a shop. I would also need worldwide recognition for when we travel. Thanks for any info.

Well, with most any recognized agency you are not tied to a shop, and wil be recognized worldwide.

They're sister organisations. TDI is well known among technical divers here in the US, SDI is there recreational arm and seems to be more popular in Europe than it is here.

There are three components that go into training: the agency, the instructor and the student. I found the TDI materials for the classes I took to be acceptable but nothing to shout about. Fortunately, I had a good instructor and was willing to put some extra effort into independently studying the subjects.

TDI was started by Mitch Skaggs and Brett Gilliam, both of these two did a lot of "deep" diving and started their own organization. I am a TDI inst. I find them very helpful and willing. There materials are "growing" and they do let you tailor your class, I add as much additional info as I can and as I see fit. I taught three people Nitrox in Indonesia in Dec. and after reading the PADI materials they chose the TDI course. I offered them their choice .I prefer the TDI over PADI Just my opinion-M
