They have 2 ATM's in West End, but they run out of money over the weekend, so stock up on Friday morning. The most you can take out at one time is 5000 limpera, about US$260. Most US banks charge $5 for a foreign ATM transaction, but some customers get it for free. So you might not need to bring a lot of travelers checks.

Costs are low. $20 per dive if you do 10 or more. Food is about 30% lower than the moderate price US cities and half of what it costs in places like New York. Beers are $1.30 each in the bars.

I am about to go to West End for my second time this year.

You`re food budget is about right for West Bay, but way too high for West End. You will have to work real hard to spend that much. We ate most of our meals in West End and spent under $20 for lunch and averaged under $30 at night and we both like good food, so we were not skimping.....Argentine Grill (35-40), Mavis and Dixie`s (next to Light House - new - excellent and under $25 total for two), Light House (25-35). All of these restaurants took our credit card with a very small fee...under $1.00.

Have a great honeymoon. You`re marrying a good woman if she will spend it diving with you!!!!!!

I do have a paypal account but am not sure how that would help me?

CocoNut Tree Divers accepts PayPay for payment or cash. They don`t like M/C....will cost you more.

Thanks for the advice!

It sounds like there are ways to get money through ATM's or credit cards. I think I have a better handle on how much money to bring. I have ATMs, credit cards, and paypal. With all that I think I will be able to get money if I need.

We just finished our classroom and confined water work for the PADI OW training. We had a great experience with Sierra Dive Center here in Reno. My fiance had a little anxiety with the mask removal but got over it very quickly. Other than that, it was no sweat. We hope to be doing the open water work with Coconut Tree.

Only a month to go!

We're back from Roatan (trip report in progress) and I have to update my previous figures a bit. Memory wasn't serving me, or you, very well when I gave you those numbers.

Our actual figures are as follows:

Morning: $4 (two gatorades and a pack of smokes)
Lunch: $10 - $12 including non-alcoholic beverages
Drinks: $15 - $20, including buying a few for our divemasters, instructors, and friends
Dinner: $28 - $40, including drinks

Low end of about $40/day for just food. High end of about $75/day for food, alcohol, a tobacco.
