Two strobes unnecessary?

For macro shots with no obstructions, one strobe is fine and simpler to use. For macro subjects hidden in coral heads or recesses, you almost always will want two to try to eliminate strong shadows. For turtles, larger critters, sharks, and any WA to medium shots, two is better. Sometimes I wish I had three! It does take longer to position, but once you review the first shot, you'll have an idea of where to re-aim the strobes. For the casual shooter, stick with one. Serious about always getting the image, two!
