I think you are correct Charlie... but I would modify number 1. to say:
DIR is the method developed by the WKPP to accomplish their exteme penetration goals with as much safety as possible. DIR as taught by GUE makes these principles available to those outside of the WKPP. The principles of DIR can make many different types of diving safer including recreational diving.

Uncle Pug:
..... The principles of DIR can make many different types of diving safer including recreational diving.
(emphasis added) Which reminds me of another pet peeve ---- the confusion between safest, safer, and safe (or "safe enough").

Charlie Allen

p.s. I'm not saying your post exhibits this confusion, but examples are easy to find in other current threads, like the one on whether DM-ing is DIR

You make a very good point Charlie.

Charlie99:
(emphasis added) Which reminds me of another pet peeve ---- the confusion between safest, safer, and safe (or "safe enough").
where would the boards be without DIR and PADI both offer a training idea both left to interpretation abused by all sides neither offer a answer just there own spin.
To each their own

Charlie99:
1. DIR is a method for making many different types of dives safely.

2. DIR is the only way to dive safely.

IMO, many of the never-ending threads on DIR are because someone makes statement #1, and others reply as if #2 is what was said.

.. and the remainder are because someone makes statement #2 when #1 would suffice.
