Oh and all this stuff should be covered in your primers class. I'd probably talk to my instructor first and ask what he/she recommends to use during the class and then go from there.

Anyone who is qualified to teach a primer is going to be able to rent you appropriate gear or know where to rent it conveniently. Just talk to them first and ensure you know how much it will be.
