Chamber Day/Eve 2016 looms so this will be fairly short . . .
THIS COMING WEDNESDAY - The big day looms and it's still not too late for you to get involved. In case you've been under a rock, Chamber Day is the major fund-raiser for the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and it's happening this Wednesday. You can still book yourself on to a boat if you like (we've got the Cee Ray), book on to the Flying Dutchman, or make a direct contribution to the Chamber Challenge. (Chamber Evening ticket sales are now closed off.) But get involved and support your Chamber!!!! This is a really big deal and for way-too-many years now, Reef Seekers has served as Chamber Day HQ so things are hopping here, especially in the final days. Make sure you're on board and support your Chamber. We need YOU!!!
DID YOU SPOT THE TYPO? - Did you happen to find our Chamber Day typo? It's on one of the posters. We've got about 20 of these posters printed up this way, so maybe they'll become collector's items and a $10 investment will yield big bucks down the road. See if you can find the mis-spelled word on this page: Chamber Day Posters > Chamber Day > USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
GREAT BARRIER REEF BLEACHING - There seems to be some question about how extensive this might be, but there's no doubt there's something amiss in the Great Barrier Reef, as we've mentioned previously. Some reports say that over 90% of the reefs are suffering from a bleaching episode. Others - many in the tourism industry - say it's not so bad and that this is being overblown. The real question, regardless of the extent of the bleaching, is when will it stop and how quickly can the reefs recover? The Maldives suffered a major bleaching episode back in 1998 but recovered, although it took time. It's certainly too early to tell what will happen with the GBR. If you'd like to learn more, here's an article from the Washington Post (
‘And then we wept': Scientists say 93 percent of the Great Barrier Reef now bleached ) and one another web-based one (
50% Of The Great Barrier Reef Is Now Dead Or Dying, 93% Is Bleached) that might shed some light.
And that's truly going to do it for now. Too much on my plate tonight. But have a great week, hope to see you Wednesday, and let's go diving soon!!!
