Oscar, Oscar, Oscar . . .
DIVING AND THE OSCARS - There were actually a number of divers who were presenters this year (but no diving winners that I know of). And even though it's not a diving movie, it's water-related so congrats to "The Shape of Water." If you haven't seen it yet (and especially if you liked "Creature From the Black Lagoon" from which it is loosely derived) I recommend it highly. It was always my choice for Best Picture. But check out "Get Out" as well.
DIVERS DAY IS THIS COMING SATURDAY - Make plans to come to Long Beach and the annual Divers Day where your c-card gets you free admission into the Aquarium of the Pacific from 9A-5P. There will be various ocean-related entities there with informational tables plus we'll have our usual assortment of dive presentations, diving-themed videos (playing in the Great Hall), and some special demonstrations as well. We'll also have a table there for the Chamber and Chamber Day. And speaking of which . . .
CHAMBER DAY 2018 IS NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS - We officially went "live" at www.chamberday.org on March 1. Reef Seekers again serves as Chamber Day HQ plus we're sponsoring the Cee Ray during the day, and we have a table for the Eve. Make note that if you sign up for the Cee Ray (or any other boat) by March 31, you'll get a discounted price of $95, instead of the usual $110. Also note that if you're coming to Chamber Eve ($120/ticket) give some thought to spending an extra $75 and adding the V.G.D. (Very Generous Diver) Package which gets you special VIP parking, early (6PM) access to the Aquarium, a private lounge and cash bar, a t-shirt, extra raffle tickets and more. Definitely worth thinking about. Remember that it all goes to benefit our Chamber, which stands ready to help us 24/7/365.
GOING TO AVALON MARCH 17 - How about a nice day trip over to Avalon in two weeks? We're going on Saturday, March 17, and will do three dives in the UW Park. We'll leave out of San Pedro on the 9AM boat going over and will depart Avalon on the 5:30PM coming back. $150 gets you squared away for the boat, taxi to the Park, tank rental & airfills, and the guided diving. We've already got three people confirmed so this is a "go". Give us a call at 310/652-4990 if you want to join in on the fun.

SLEEP A LITTLE LESS NEXT SUNDAY - That's a round-about way of reminding you that Daylight Savings Time starts this coming Sunday at 2AM. Make sure you roll your clocks FORWARD one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
