It's the first night of Hanukkah and I'm a little flu-ish . . .
NO KIDDING, NOT JUST A CHEAP JOKE - Nothing like starting the month off with fever, aches, and the other joys of the flu. And I sound like crap too. Yuk!!! (It also means this will be another short one. So there's an upside to it as well.)
NOT THE WEEKEND TO BE OUT DIVING - Very rough at most of the beaches (Redondo looked like a washing machine) and there was a 6-to-11-foot swell out in the channel. So hopefully you relaxed or got some shopping done this past weekend.
DIVING INDONESIA - We're planning on going back to Sulawesi and our friends at Murex this year in July and quite coincidentally, there's a good article in the current issue of DAN's Alert Diver about diving the area and what makes it so special. The article talks about not only Bunaken Marine Park, but also diving in the Lembeh Straits and at Bangka Island, all of which we will do on our planned trip. If you don't get Alert Diver (and you should - whole different discussion), here's a link to the article: http://www.alertdiver.com/North-Sulawesi-Trifecta .
YAP AS WELL - If you haven't looked at the Reef Seekers December newsletter yet, be sure to check out the details on our Yap trip scheduled for March 11-24. Always a great trip and it will be a relatively small group, which also is nice. Give us a call at 310/652-4990 if you have questions or want to get signed up.
SMART OCTOPUSES - Octopuses have long been regarded as being very intelligent. Jill Gefen passes along an article from the New York Times about that. Interesting read: https://www.nytimes.com/…/animal-intelligence-octopus-cepha… .
BUT THEN AGAIN, MAYBE SOME NOT-AS-SMART ONES TOO - There's some footage posted through National Geographic of an octopus trying to eat a Pufferfish. Naturally, the puffer has fully inflated himself. On top of that, pufferfish contain a toxin so they may not be good to eat. So perhaps, like with humans, some octopuses are not quite as smart as others:
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/…/octopus-attempts-eat-…/ .
And that'll do it for now. (I told you it'd be short.) Have a great week and let's go diving soon!!!
