Greetings--

I'm considering picking up a new/old-stock (women-specific) Tusa Selene Wing for my wife. However, there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of information out there on it.

Does anyone have any thoughts, reviews, or personal experience with this one?

Thanks!

R.

My ex and another woman friend of mine both used the Selene Wing during OW training. They both really liked them, but, obviously, did not have much experience behind them to really judge. I subsequently bought one for my ex. I posted on here about it and was told by several people on here what a bad BCD it is. Excessive lift. Too much useless "stuff" on it. Etc.. The same comments that would be applied to most integrated BCDs by people who use back plate and wing setups. She still liked it just fine and it seemed to work just fine for her. Quality-wise, it seemed very good to me. Good construction, etc..

I am a dedicated BP/W user myself. But, for my ex-g/f who was only ever going to dive warm(-ish) water with a single tank, I thought, and still do think, it was a perfectly fine BCD. And, at the price, couldn't be beat. My current g/f is a more experienced diver than I am. She tried one of my single tank BP/W rigs and she didn't like it. She prefers an integrated BCD with pockets, a cummerbund, quick release weight pockets, and all that stuff that a lot of tech divers say is terrible.

All that said, I showed my current g/f a Selene Wing at our local shop because she is considering buying instead of continuing to rent. She didn't like it that much. My conclusion: If a woman needs a BCD, their reasons for preferring one over another are going to include more things than just the specs. Things like how it looks and also how it fits their specific curves. Thus, I would not buy a BCD for a woman (or, really, a man either) other than if THEY picked it out first and I was just providing the wallet.

Thanks-- this is exactly the information I'm needing. My wife is *definitely* warm-water/single-tank; she looks at diving more as an excuse to get to a beach somewhere than as a particular challenge.

I may take a chance on the Tusa-- the price is right, it's returnable, and she can make a good estimation of fit by wearing it around the house for an evening. Not the perfect solution, but there are budgetary constraints involved. Since I'm having to completely outfit her with new kit (and pay for the trip to Palau and Truk), and few corners need to be cut here and there.

Thanks again. Very much appreciated.

find a guy on here that goes by BoulderJohn. Ask him if he could show you a couple of different options in a pool so she can make a more informed decision. He is a good diver/instructor and would be a good use of your time
