Has anybody done any diving around Tulum other than the cenotes? I will be there in October and would really appreciate any recommendations. I have done a lot of diving in Cozumel but due to time constraints won't be able to make it over to paradise on this trip.

There is some fine diving out of Tulum, you can check out Abyss at www.abyssdiveshop.com OR if you want something a little different check out my Dive and Kayak tours that I provide in the area at www.diablodivers.com

Dennis,

Thanks for your response. My wife and I will be staying at the Blue Sky hotel in Tulum Oct. 22-26. I am not that familiar with the mainland. We stayed at the Royal Hideaway in Playacar last year and I did 1 dive with barrakuda scuba. Their safety procedures were lacking (no buddy check, ooa situation another diver got bent) all in all a bad experience. I am interested in doing a couple of cenote dives but really enjoy the reefs around Cozumel. So I would prefer ocean dives. Can you PM me with some contact information please? I have all of my own gear so just need weights and tank. Thanks again for your response.

i've dove in akumal and farther south for the last five years and have used the original akumal dive shop. www.akumal.com. well run operation.
good diving

I was wondering about the ocean diving there too. I did some cenote diving there, which I enjoyed. If I go back, I would like to mix it up with some ocean diving.

The folks at the shop said the local reef is good. (But of course they would.) Fish, turtles, maybe some rays. Sounded like it was pretty shallow and nothing fancy.
