Hi -
In the last couple of dives with my can light, my buddy mentioned that my light cord was flapping around me when I had it clipped in the permanent stow position at the end of the dive - once was during a normal ascent and the 2nd was when we were swimming back towards the exit point under a kelp canopy in about 15ft of water. In the latter case, it did get tangled up in kelp and is the reason for this post.
This is what I've been trying to do for the stow -
1. Clip off light head to right chest D-ring
2. Pull light cord across my chest and under longhose <<< I'm pretty sure this is what's screwing it up
3. Tuck under waistband
The light cord is 36" long, not including the glands. This works perfectly when the light is deployed but isn't long enough when I try to pull it across my chest as in step 2 above. I'm not sure if I really need to pull it all the way across and the reason I was doing it was to try to get it under the longhose and out of it's way. I also found it really fiddly to actually tuck into the waistband - I wear a weight belt and am always futzing around trying to get it sometimes under both belts, sometimes between them.
I'm thinking it might work just as well if I tuck the light cord closer to my right hip instead of trying to go across my chest and under the longhose. The actual tuck part I'm struggling with is probably just a practice issue and might even go away when I have a little extra length to play with (by not doing the across chest thing). Another option is to move my EZCut to the right side of the waist belt and tuck the light cord under that the same way the longhose is tucked under the canister.
Any thoughts on the above? Especially the EZCut tuck method. I'm also curious how others are managing this. I realize my light cord is slightly short as far as "standards" go but I haven't had any issues with it when deployed.
Thanks in advance,
elgoog
