In preperation for my upcoming 2 weeks in BVI on a sailing / diving trip, I need to make a TTL decision. I trust my photography skills, but I am new to diving, and this will be my first diving trip.

Here is what I have for equipment:

Oly 5060 with the PT-020 Case
Oly 5050 with the PT-015 Case
Sea & Sea YS120TTL Duo
Sea & Sea Type S Sync Cords

I plan on bringing both housings / cameras so I'll have a back-up if something breaks. I'll probably sell one of the cameras / housings after the trip. I want to focus on enjoying the diving, controlling my bouyancy, and not on fussing with my camera on every shot, that is why I'm leaning towards TTL.

It doesn't look like Henrich's IR adapter is still available and is listed as discontinued:

The advantage is that I could use that with either housing / camera.

I've looked at the Mike Dive site, but the web-translaters leave a lot to be desired, which makes understanding what he offers very confusing:

I'm assuming that I would need a converter to go from the 5060 hotshoe to the PT-020 bulkhead (inside). Then a cable to go from the bulkhead (outside) to the converter. Then another cable to go from the converter to the strobe. Correct?

Has anyone in the US actually purchased the 5060/PT-020 set-up from Mike? I'd like to hear exactly what you purchased, how much you paid etc.?

My other option is to just shoot in manual.

Thanks,

Glenn

If you are leaning towards TTL then the Oly IR TTL adaptor would be your best solution for both setups. I think Mike has it listed as a 'special order' item. E-mail him.

Kind of. If you are talking about the OLY IR TTL convertor: The IR TTL convertor will sit directly in the hotshoe. It will communicate using Infra Red thru the trasparent housing to the pick-up unit outside. This pickup unit will connect to your strobe using the sync cord you already have - you will need to specify type 'S' (assuming you have a 4-pin sync cord) for the pick-up unit. The bulk head is by-passed completely.

OR

If you are talking about hardwired solution, which will only work with the PT-020: There is only one covertor which will sit in in the hotshoe. This is connected to the inside of the PT bulkhead with a flat data cable. You will need a PT to Sea and Sea sync cord from Mike to go from the PT bulkhead (outside) to your strobe (YS120).
