I just tried back inflate BC's for the first time and I'm sold. I have been talking to the lds and they have been steering me towards 3 choices: Zeagle Ranger, Dive Rite Transpac, and OMS IQpac. They also recommended going with a Rec wing for the Transpac or IQpac. I was wondering which of these three y'all would recommend or if there are any others I should check into.

Right now I only need to be able to dive with a single tank and I am getting into wreck diving

Thanks in advance

If you are buing from the LDS and they sell dive-rite, my suggestion would be to go with a dive-rite trans-plate, not the transpack. Get stainless as you will use less weight on your belt. Go with the venture wing instead of rec wing for a single tank. Whe you are ready to dive doubles, then go with a bigger wing.

If you see doubles in the forseeable future I'd get the trek or rec wing - both seem fine for singles and smaller doubles - the rec up to double-12s.

I will probably go to using doubles in the not too distant future once I have enough experience so that is a good idea.

can you dive with doubles on the zeagle?

All are quality products. I started with a Ranger, found it very comfortable, albeit a bit bulky and positively buoyant. I would agree with the advice to go Transplate, with a SS plate, as a start. It gives a little more flexibility in sizing and fit. I would probably not go IQpac or Ranger, for the same reason (less flexibility). Ultimately, you may find (polishing the crystal ball, here) that a simple BP with web harness meets your needs quite well. (But, that is a forward-looking statement and there are federal regs that limit what can be said.) As for the wing, the Venture will handle a single tank, and if you go doubles you will probably look at something other than a Rec. Having said that, however, I have two Rec wings, dive them with a single steel HP 120 and love them. I also dive a Rec with double 120s and find it works OK. The simpler the better, you will go through some trial and error to find out what works well for you, and there are probably 5-6 approaches that will provide equallt acceptable results.

I would stick with a single tank wing for now, then purchase a larger wing later for doubles. The wings they claim work with both singles & doubles aren't ideal for either.

I started with the Trans-Pac and Rec wing and have since moved on to a BP with a smaller wing. The Trans-Pac is a very nice BC, but I would recommend using a smaller wing for singles and getting a larger wing later if you do go on to doubles. The Rec wing is too big for a single tank and not ideal for doubles. The Trans-Pac can be used with doubles, but I find the backplate much more comfortable for doubles. I would recommend the Trans-Pac with a Venture or Travel wing for singles.
