I just got the 8080 and tried it on land, while visiting with the inlaws in the Congo. It is doing a good job with macro work, so far. I get the housing in the next couple of weeks and can't wait to take it under. Stay tuned......

Great Macro Pictures. I like the one of the praying mantis quite a bit. Too bad it wasn't looking at the camera though.

Sold! I bet you will do just as well underwater! Which housing did you get?

Hey Calypso,
I'm looking at getting the 8080 also. Let me know what you think as soon as you've tried it in the blue. Am a little worried about low light focus and shutter lag.
Boomerang

Boomerang, I have taken the C8080 down four times now and it is as responsive if not more responsive than the C5050 in terms of Autofocus. Since learning with my C5050 I have always prefocused by pressing the shuter release buton halfway down before final composition of the shot. I don't have an SLR so I couldn't tell you how it compares.

I hope that helps.

All the photos dated after February 2005 in my gallery were taken with the C8080, if you want to see sample shots.

Watch out if you get the Olympus housing for your 8080. It has a big, separate, lens housing. This is held on with just two dinky pin lugs, about an 1/8 inch dia. They are moulded into the main housing and are very fragile. I would neither store nor pack this housing assembled, because these pins can break if the housing is bumped. It's not such a big issue in the water, because pressure is compressing the whole housing into the o-rings.
