Have been using the S&S 8000G since it came out but will most likely upgrade next year... not sure what I will upgrade to though.

I have only used the internal flash and have been very pleased with most of my results since I shoot mainly close up and macro. However I will be heading to Lembeh in December and know that I will hate myself if I don't have a strobe with me on this trip!!

Open for suggestions... have been researching the S&S YS27DX, the Fantasea Remora, Inon 2000s and the new Ikelite AF35 (but think this one may not give me room to grow). Want to keep it fairly compact and travel friendly!

Open to suggestions and feedback.

Have heard some good things about the nano focus light and think I will use that with whatever strobe I do get.

I'm heading to San Salvador in June and would love to get it in time to take it there with me so I can practice working with the settings, etc. Haven't used a strobe since I sold my nikonos V and went digital.

I am sure others can add to this statement but here is my 2 bob's worth.

I have been going through a similar evaluation and the stand out option amongst your choices is the Inon 2000s. You may have to pay a bit more for it but, as a system to develop on which can later become your second flash, I would buy that one.

Reasons:

Build quality and feedback from other divers.
Sttl if that's important to you.
Ability to add a Z240 or another 2000 and balance the whole thing in TTL.
Performance - although I have not looked at the Ikelite in my evaluation as it does seem to take you up an alley unless you are using their housings.

I have pretty much decided to go for the S-2000 but am now trying to figure out if they make a FO cable that will work with my S&S. I see that they have cables for canon and oly but not for the S&S. Since I"m not up on this type of stuff (I only shoot and sell my pictures :rofl3: ) am not sure if any FO cable will work or if it has to be specific to the strobe and camera/housing I am using.
