Last weekend I used doubles for the first time, but I had a heck of a time venting my wing, the 50 lb Oxycheq Signature Series.

I pulled on the lower dump, and I'd seldom get a few bubbles out. I tried rolling on my side, curling my hand around the outer edge of the wing near the dump, butt toward the surface, you name it. Glug, glug. Just little burps here and there. Seems to work fine on the surface.

With the inflator hose, it seems I needed to go badly out of trim to get it to dump. I noticed that the inflator hose exits in the middle, right where the low pressure hoses cross over. This has the effect of folding the top edge of the wing down, along with the inflator elbow.

I think most of my problem is technique. If anyone has experience using the Oxycheq doubles wing let me know how well it works for you.

Anyone have any tips and tricks on venting?

I think that w/ time youll get used to it. But my first though after diving doubles for the first time was that I wanted a donut doubles wing. Now I have one and it really eliminated the "dance".

Funny you should mention it. I just bought the exact same wing and have, maybe 12 dives on it now. It had become habit to put my right shoulder up a bit when venting the single wing to the point that I didn't even know I was doing it. But since the doubles wing hose comes out at the center, now that I've adjusted my technique, it's really even easier to dump. I just have to make sure I don't tilt over at all. Just head up a bit.

Yeah, the rear dump is a little more effort, since it's not a donut, it's all about getting that left butt cheek up just right. I'm just starting to get used to it.

Thanks for the comments guys, and it's nice to know that with some experience the wing I have will work out.

Ok, looks like I need to work on my technique; there's no replacement for practice. I'm sure a donut wing would be easier at this point but my single tank wing was a horseshoe and I didn't really have problems with it.

fwiw - my procedure is to do a slight roll, head up slightly, then roll to the right, then head down a bit, pull dump valve (left rear of wing) the head up slightly to let air go to the "front" of the wing, then trim out allowing air to "balance" out on both sides of the wing... It's not as complicated as it sounds though and I'm not going more than a few inches up or down (head higher or lower) at each stage...

Have fun, and unless you are experiencing a "technical" problem with the wing you should get it real quick...

Aloha, Tim

I have a 40 lb oxychec wing and a 55 lb halcyon. You should not have any problem dumping either one. A slight roll or tilt and that should be it.

One thought I had was that if you have a lot of air in your wing to dump, you may be carrying too much weight. If that is the case it will be harder to dump the wing on ascent.

You don't say if you have had experience with any other wings, but if this is your first wing, and the first time using the rear dump, you simply may be pulling the string in the wrong direction.

When horizontal the OPV faces down. If you just grab the string and pull down you will pull the left "lobe" of the wing down, in effect moving the opv away from the air bubble. Try pulling the string up towards your back, this lift the opv up to where the air bubble is in the wing. This becomes more important the less gas you have in the wing.

Good luck,

Tobin
