I've been practicing on land before my trip to Thailand next month because last time in Nov. when I was shooting in NC, I noticed that the auto focus didn't always work. I would press the shutter halfway, and sometimes the camera would fire without focusing. So I've tried and tried on land and it is an intermittant thing. I've also tried with the camera out of the housing and it works fine. I have the Olympus housing that goes with the c-7070 (forget the PT number). I thought about sending it back to Olympus, but maybe it's just me. Sometimes it works great, then others, man, it makes me so frustrated.

What you're experiencing is lack of feel, due to the return spring pressure on the shooting button. Especially with gloves on, you'll find it difficult to tell the difference between a half depressed button and one thats gone over the edge. Try depressing it less than you think you need to. If the focus signal light blinks, or you've seen the red focus sensor on the target, you're there. It just takes practice.

Thanks. I keep thinking I'm doing it the same way all the time. Sometimes I just don't get that green focus dot at all. It just fires.
And then sometimes, I get the green dot focus ok, and when I depress the shutter the rest of the way, nothing happens. That is weird too. But it only happens in the housing.

If you don't already have one , it is a good idea to add a focus light to your rig to help with the autofocus , especially with macro stuff .
