Well, I still like the fit and comfort of the BC, but I have to add a couple of gripes.

1) the deflate buttons on the power inflator are hard plastic, and chip and crack easily (ask me how I know). No failure, but not as comfortable without gloves. I have seen one that disintegrated/failed in another post. I've lost a bit of confidence in their inflator mechanisms.

2) The velcro pockets are generous, but a little bit of a pain when you have stuff stored in the "tiny" zippered pockets that form their flap.

3) the trim pockets are too deep, and when inverted, the trim weights will shift up in the pockets, and don't seem to readily slide back down as easily as they slid up.

4) the stock tank straps are WAAAY too long. I purchased some aftermarket and they hold single tanks much better

5) No handle to hold on to the BC without a tank (minor annoyance).

6) the semi-rigid backpack is better than the hard plastic, but not as "packable" as a softpack.

7) bottom line: I'm glad I didn't spend more than $200 (127 for the BC, $25 for the straps, $35 for pool time) to find this out. I'm having my Sherwood Harpoon Inflator hose repaired "Just in Case". I might replace the power inflators on the Triple-L for more assurance.

8) the power inflator hoses that ship with the BC are long enough - barely. I think they should be at least 3-4" longer to keep the inflators flat against the body of the BC. The tank rides a little high with the two straps.

So, I'm reasonably still happy with the BC, it has a lot of nice features, but the power inflator mechanisms are the pits.

well, I went to the In Ten City Tour and Scuba Toys this weekend. Mom also got the Orion and got in the water to test out her BC and new camera accessories. She is a tad smaller than me. I saw her BC up around her ears and really started to freak out that my orion would be too big! I left the pool area to look at Larry's BC's and found one I liked that was the same price as the Orion, but not Back Inflate... Ben at Scuba Toys also took a look at the Orion on me and agreed it was too big...what to do, what to do! I knew how stingy Triple L's return policy was... so I got in the water with my mom's BC (since it was already wet). Turns out, it fits much better than expected when wet! I dont have any leway in the shoulder straps since they are cinched down all the way, but it worked out nicely. I didnt stay in long, but now am VERY releived and am looking forward to using my Orion! Maybe in the pool this weekend... before I hit Coz next weekend.

OK, I'll bite... how do you know? :eyebrow:

I'm starting to get the feeling that the inflator hose assemblies may be the relative weak point of these BCs... with Quetzal's deflate button falling out of one of his Gemini inflators late last year (we never did find out exactly why that happened), and now your experience...

Anybody know, by the way, which Triple-L BCs use the "standard" inflator, and which use the "Shark One" inflator? And what the difference is? From the diagrams in the owner's Maintenance Guide, it looks like there are some minor parts differences, but the inflate and deflate button parts look identical...

Emily--

Very glad to hear that, in your case. But you and your mom are still stuck with a second Orion that's definitely too large for her, right? What now?

Guess I should have finished that story... when I saw the BC was too big on her was right when she got in the water, getting accustomed to the new BC before grabbing the camera. I had left the pool area and when I came back, she was already out of the pool. She said that when she first got in she hadnt tightened all the straps, esp the cumberbund... so that is why it was so "big" on her, but she had fixed them when I had left and they were fine... so both our Orions will work out. :)

well, just got back from Cozumel with my new Orion... first real diving with it and it performed wonderfully. most of the air i put in the wing goes to the right wing, so i guess i need to level myself in the water :) had a blast and love the BC! just thought I would let yall know!

Hey, I am not sure how big you are talking about though. At least Orion has a crotch strap to hold BCD. Pagasus that I bought doesn't have a crotch strap option like Orion, so it is a really PITA if we don't pull out the sholder strap as much as possible.

As for the inflator, I don't find any issue with it. It works find like ScubaPro one.

I ordered the international version of the Orion. Called the Cratos. The Inflator hose is longer and made with stainless steel buttons. Other than that it's the same.

You mentioned in the other thread that "shipping was a killer." But how much, exactly? I assume you're in the U.S. ...?

And what "local price" were you referring to? Do you have a local dealer who carries this stuff?

For example I got the Orion about a year ago. It was around 180 USD (if I remember correctly) and the shipping to Cyprus was another 150;

(I still got it because even so it was still a good deal :D)
