Hello, I am new to this site. I am planning a trip to Maui specifically to scuba dive, hopefully everyday as much as I can. Unfortunately i have expended most of my money on airfare, tank rentals and car as much of what i hope to do is shore dives. I was curious if anyone had some information of inexpensive places to stay, I plan on bringing a tent for some county campground stays. Any information that would help a twenty-year old college kid have a great time in Maui without taking too much of his money would be helpful and greatly appreciated, Thank You.

If you'd like to stay awhile, look at getting a job while here to pay some of the expenses. It usually only takes a few hours to land a job (or 2 or 3) here and work part time to pay for your vacation... just an idea... Unfortunately cheap and Maui don't go together easily. The link Kimmie provided is a good place to start. Camping on the beach is ok in some areas - easiest way to find out is to drive down the road till you see tents, then pitch yours in the same general area... Most of these areas will at most have an outhouse, but no drinking water etc... So plan on bottled water to drink. Though if you look, at low tide sometimes you can find fresh water springs by digging in the sand near the edge of the water (brackish water actually, but you can cook with it). Drop me a PM with your travel plans once you know them, and we can do some shore diving together. Best place in Lahaina for tank rentals is most likely http://www.pacificdive.com in Kihei check http://www.bbscuba.com - depending on how many tanks you plan on using while here, the price can be as little as $2/fill (they provide the tanks too)

Aloha, Tim

Thanks for the link ScubaKimmie there are some wonderful condos on that page, but i think i am going to stay at the bannana bungalow in Wailuka...it's hard to beat 25 a night even if you are sleeping with three strangers.

You're staying on the seldom dove side of the island over there but it's cheap and the island isn't that big :)
