Why beat the guy up with Cozumel's not for him. It's obvious SCC is not for him, but why would that eliminate Cozumel? Just because you enter Mexico, it doesn't mean economic rules no longer apply. You still get what you pay for. If you want more amenities, more service, all you have to do is break open the wallet and upgrade to a more expensive resort that includes more with it. However, if you think a $2.00 coke is a ripoff you're going to have a hard time cause you aren't going to get your cake, eat it to and not have to pay more for it.

There is a hot dog stand on the corner that hands you a hot dog and you put your own relish and mustard on it, and you drink out of a soda can while standing up in the street. There is also a hot dog shack just down the street where you can choose from 100 different versions of the basic hot dog, they will put your soda in a cup with ice and put the fixins on the hot dog for you, you can take your hot dog and walk over to a table and sit down and when you're done you clean up your own trash, return the tray and leave. Of course the 2nd place charges more for their hotdog then the first place. Around the corner is a diner that will serve you a hot dog, a waitress will take your order and bring your hot dog to you at your table, when you're done you simply leave everything at the table and you leave a tip. The last place costs more than the other two combined.

SCC is not the only place to stay on Cozumel and it's not the only dive operation. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. If SCC isn't for you, just find a place that is more suitable, but don't pick a bargain provider and then complain like it should be a 5 start joint.

Cozumel's big attraction is what's under the water anyways.

They have any good mole at that first hot dog stand? :)

We were first timers at SCC in January and wasn't expecting much. I believe "you get what you pay for" so we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a great room, the staff was great. We had no problems with any of the waiters. They were fun and efficient. The dive assignment was easy. Sign up the night before then check the BIG whiteboard in the morning to see what DM & boat you were assigned to.

Maybe we were lucky because a) we arrived Saturday at 9pm so no rush at reception and b) I heard the resort was only 65% full.

We loved it so much that we cancelled our May trip to Jamaica (not a dive vacation but a be pampered vacation) to go back to SCC in April. We also plan on going back again in January when they once again have the great deal of 50% off 2nd diver.

It's too bad he didn't enjoy it. My co-workers stay at the Sabor. An adults only AI that they love. Of course it costs alot more but that is them. I want to dive so I don't need a 5* room and food plus we don't drink so I hate to pay AI prices for just pop.

I'm not going to comment on SCC as I've never stayed there and dislike AI resorts in general anyways. I also respect the fact that you didn't like the island and agree that it sometimes smells of sewage on Melgar (experienced that for a few days in a row last winter/spring near the McDonald's, don't know what caused this issue and is not a permanent thing, was on the island for over 2 months and only smelled it 5 or 6 days at the most).
Although I love "island time" and am more amused than upset by Mexico's idiosyncrasies, I can understand that it is not something everyone enjoys (actually thinking of bringing my super organised, stressed mom on a future trip on the island and I know it will be a challenge for both of us…)

However, this really cracks me up :
Then there was the SUR 13 tag just a block or 2 north of the hotel, just makes you feel warm and fuzzy about an evening walk NOT. Westayed inside the gates at night.
It is perfectly safe to walk at night ! Even if some kid tagged the name of a terrible gang that operates on the mainland on a wall. Surely there are teens who like to pretend they're tough by writing stupid sh!t on walls where you live too ?

I am living on the street with the SUR 13 tag! What has always drawn me back to Cozumel are the very friendly locals. I have always felt welcomed. Sorry that you did not feel the friendly vibe that draws many of us back to the island year after year.

Yea, we have MS13 tags are here too. They are assuredly wannabees. In fairness, I am sure a city the size of San Miguel has gang activity. It certainly has some drug issues. One can accept those realities and still say Cozumel is a very, very safe place for tourists.

Oh Geez, I knew I was gonna get flamed. Thanks to the folks that defend my opinion and to those who say "I know you said it is your opinion but..." take it easy. If someone writes a review and loves every thing about a place no one comes back and says "Oh yeah well your an idiot and that place sucks". So again this was just MY PERSONAL opinion. I am not a four star pamper my ass diver, in fact my favorite place to dive is Coco View which is hardly gourmet on food and Four Seasons accommodations. However, CCV has a system that works very well. I have never had a bad time there and have been many times. This trip was my first time back to Cozumel in 12 years. Don't be offended if I didn't like your island or resort, like another said be happy that I leave you more space there and move on.

RtS,

Sorry for the beating you took. Cozumel really engenders all of us to think of it as OUR ISLAND, so some really, REALLY don't take negatives well. It is really an expression of love... (In that weird twisted way that leads to dysfunctional families....)

Everyone who posted did so in a respectful manner, stated their case politely and moved on.

Flamed? I don't think so.

Really? Read the FIRST response post where he is told, "I am glad you didnt have fun because Cozumel dont really need people with your attitude or opinion !" Or do I not understand the concept of flaming?

Actually good to hear a different point of view of SCC and Cozumel. My LDS was unable to book me for their Cozumel spring break trip to SCC so maybe a blessing in disguise? Bonaire, GC, T&C and many other places cost same and have better food and diving. But after hearing the stories of Fiji, Thailand, Pulau, PNG, and Asia dive spots, I need to book a trip to the South Pacific as well!
