This year I've visited Tioman twice. Gonna miss Tioman for this coming monsoon. The bustling village of Salang hosts some nice dive sites.

Salang Reef, as the name implies, is pretty much a shore dive from the beautiful Salang Beach. It gets a while before you start to see some prolific marine life. The highlight for me was a blue-spotted stingray, which I "chased" and took some picture of it. Coral growth is healthy, especially at deeper water.

There is no turtle spotted at Salang Reef per se, but during another dive at Roger's Reef (fronting Dive Asia), I saw 2 turtles which my dive master said, called the reef home.

That must qualify as the worlds shortest trip report  :D

Thanks anyways and glad you enjoyed the diving. Keep us posted on your future trips.

Salang reef is a nice dive. There's cuttle fish, pipefish, trumpet fish, scorpion fish, yellow box fish, resident bumphead parrotfish, eels, juvie barracuda, grouper, angel, trigger, etc. abundance of hard corals - staghorn, potato, cabbage, brain, bubble, porites etc.. and giant clams, glassy shrimp, crabs. anemones are plenty, as are nudibranchs, flatworms.

you have also dive a wreck (fishing trawler) close to shore - scorpion fish, leopard shark and lots of soft coral.

pier dive is nice as well - tyre clumps for mini artificial reefs - that's where you can see yellow boxfish, lion fish, pipe fish all in one spot.

all those within 50 yards of shore. some pics on my photo page.

Well, I live in the East Coast of Malaysia, getting to Tioman or Redang or Perhentian will take me a few hours only :)

If I do Liveaboard to Komodo Island, etc, that might take a bit longer :)
