Myself and four other divers took Fran Marcoux's boat Daybreaker out of Scituate today to do two tanks on the Pinthis. First time out w/ Fran and son , Matt. Two thumbs up all the way. They're dedication to customer service is fantastic as they're always assisting w/ lugging, donning and doffing dive gear. The boat is clean, well thought-out dive design and overall very nice. I'll have to try Fran for a Cape Ann dive next.

Anyhow, the seas were a bit rough(3 to 4 feet) and the boat was getting tossed around a bit, so I decided to fed the fish during the SI:D . Other than that minor set-back, the dives were great.

The Pinthis is a great dive -- looks like a big blimp w/ a bunch of holes punched in it with all sorts of fish(pollock, cod, sea bass, etc.) inside it's cavernous interior. Anemones, seas stars and other invertebrates are along the exterior of the turtled hull. Spotted one lonely dogfish, zero lobsters and a few sea ravens/robins. Viz was better than I'm used to at about 25 feet. Bottomed out at 99fsw w/ 48F at depth and about 30 minutes per dive. I stuck to the outisde of the wreck shining my light through the many holes. Very obvious thermo @ 30/35fsw. Current on the wreck during 2nd dive, but none on first. Mooring on the stern, but things were so interesting there that I never made it the the bow. Gives me an excuse to go back to the wreck.

Do you know if Fran's crew re-secured the mooring line? It was starting to frey and a couple strands had parted the last time I was there (2wks ago). We would have re-tied it but there were 2 other boats on it at the time.

And yes, it was a bit snotty out there Saturday. We were several miles away diving the Winsor and we had a dude chumming also.:11:

I thought the line looked awful new...so he must have re-done the stern mooring. I saw no frays or anything on the entire length of the line. It's a good thing, too -- it was taken a beating. Hey, someone had to step up to the plate and fed the fish.;)

Yes, it WAS that kind of day. Most of us have fed the fish one time or another.

Hey Dennis,

I was on the boat that helped you guys find that wreck. Blufin Toona Did some chumming myself on the way back in. :l: :l: How did the dive go? Should have been a good dive once you cleared the surface. Watched your stern dancing up and down quiete a ways and was wondering how you got back in.

Lobstaman, How big is the Daybreaker? We were on a 24' and getting tossed all over the place. Left the ramp at 8am. Heard we just missed you guys?

Bob,
The curse continued for me (I’m sure Tom mentioned how many times we went out there looking) as when I rolled off the boat my zipper finally let go.:11: Can you say shocking? But, two of our guys, Mike and Harry, did get down to the wreck. They thought it was BEAUTIFUL. I'll be going back with my video cam next time! And rest assured we will respect Tom's wishes.

Please thank Tom again for me. It was a lousy day for you guys to go out for a boat ride just to show us where this site is. It is very appreciated. We'll have to get you two diving down in RI sometime.

Regards,
Dennis

Let us know next time you go out. Tom took me to it last year and it was a great dive. I hadnt bothered to check the forecast and drank bucketfuls of coffee on the way to the ramp. Oh well. Will be sure to check next time and take some dramamine. I am hoping to get back out with him towards the end of the week. :coffee:

Hey Sarge:

I think Fran's boat is about 30 to 35 feet or thereabouts. Not a bad size, but she was a rockin' on sat morning. I should have taken some dramamine, too. Well, I did get two nice dives in and that's all that counts in the long run. I never eat too much before diving no matter if it's a shore dive or a roller coaster ride off shore. You might have just missed us if you left from the marina(Cole something or other) near the Wharf Tavern/Restaurant in Scituate. We left about 7:45am or so and returned around 12:15pm.

I was looking for the barf smilie, but I couldn't find it, until now:l: :l: :l: :l: :l: HAH!

Can't wait for the next dive out there. You don't have too many wrecks like the Pinthis around here.

Nice to hear from you Rafa...I finally got that dry suit...Bare ATR Trilam.

We may head out there again on Saturday, although a couple of the guys want to head north and hit the Northern Voyager so I'll have to talk them into it. Enjoy your dive if you get there this week.

Do you get out to the Delaware much? She can be a very nice dive, and it's right in Tom's front yard.

Dennis

I apologize for the thread hijack folks.:shakehead
