Well the day started off great with a good stiff northeastern breeze so I figured we would just make the boat ride. But 30 miles off shore it was beautiful with waves in the 1-3ft range.
The DM jumped & when he came back reported 71% top to bottom (120fsw) with 10ft vis. This was quite expected as Tropical storm Ernesto had just breezed by dumping about 8 inches of rain & pounding winds.
When we jumped it was real nice, but my buddy's drysuit flooded right away, but he kept going. 10 ft vis was a stretch, but hey it was a dive & warm temps for this area. 105ft for 39 min total run time & it was time for lunch. 3 hot dogs & potato chips with a Pepsi. Not quite The Fling, but it filled the pit.
After an hour & 40 minutes SI we were ready to do it again. My buddy decided to go wet this run, but since I was still in my drysuit I stayed in it even tho I had my Isotherm semi in my bag.
I was 1st to jump & head down the line. I thought it strange when I felt the line change from rope to chain, but couldnt see the wreck yet. Well vis was down to 1-2 ft . We hooked a reel & headed off. Could not see a thing even tho we were hovering 1 ft off the deck. There was no current, which was nice, but the vis really was trying our patience. After 30 min. we decided to call it & head up. My buddy thought I gave hime the time sign, but I didnt. Must have been someone who thought it was his buddy. Everyone looked the same down there. 91ft for 34 min total run time & 71% for both dives.
The best part of the day was waiting for the DM to unhook & we noticed a boil on the surface. We were waiting for a whale as they have been seen in our area, but what we saw was a giant Manta Ray breach the surface by 2-3 ft & it was upside down as all we saw was white. Very cool I didnt even know we had them here.
