I had a great time on Cozumel. I hung around with Sharky and Mrs. Sharky a bit during the 4 days we overlapped at Blue Angel and I ran into Sideways at a SI on the Palancar Pier. I'm sorry I didn't connect with anyone else, but most of the time I was there only the banner and ads of this forum would load so I was a bit out of touch. Also, I was pretty tied up with the Thundering Herd.
The Thundering Herd:
The family (me, my mom, my sister and her husband, and my wife and daughter) plus a bunch of friends. There were 14 of us at our peak; we had two floors of Blue Angel pretty much filled up.
The hotel and dive shop:
Blue Angel. It was great as usual. 12 of us took the BA Cielo Cruise down to Colombia Shallows and my wife and I dove underneath the snorkelers, one of whom was my 88 year old mom. High point!
There is now an annex to Blue Angel, called Blue Angel South. I'm pretty sure it's what was formerly Papa Hog's. It's still under renovation but I like what they have done so far. We didn't eat there but it has a restaurant called, I believe, Turquoise.
The dives:
Santa Rosa twice, Villablanca, Colombia Deep and Shallows (we dove Shallows twice), Palancar Caves, Gardens, and a new to me section between Bricks and Caves (Big Caves?) that was pretty much one long series of swimthroughs, San Clemente, three different sections of Cedral, Yucab, Tormentos and the shore dive at BA. High points were the trip to two Cedral sites (sharks and turtles and eels, oh my!), that new section of Palancar, and as always, Colombia Shallows.
The fishing:
We fished three days with our friends on La Graaan Cosa. The fishing wasn't as good as it has been in some past years but I caught a white marlin (~80-90 lbs) and a nice dorado (~30 lbs). C&R for the marlin, but we got two big filets from the dorado.
The food:
We ate several dinners there at the BA restaurant, which is always good. We also dined at El Moro, Casa Mission, La Choza, 'Ohana, Punta Morena (over on the wild side) and Kinta. Not a bad meal in the lot.
Miscellaneous:
We hired a cab for the all day excursion around the island - Mescalito's, Coconuts, Punta Morena, Chen Rio, Playa Bonita, El Mirador, and our usual visit to Tree, the big cieba on the south road on the way back to the west side. We didn't stay long at Playa Bonita; I am sad to report that the beach erosion there has reached the building's foundation and the place is slowly collapsing into the sea. We didn't stop at Andele, which isn't Andele any more.
All in all it was yet another great trip to Cozumel. We already have our dates for next May penciled in.
