One comment on domestic flights on Indonesia carriers. FYI, I commute from Singapore to Indonesia and work in Indonesia as well. Even thought its super easy for me to arrange domestic flights within Indonesia, sometimes I use a travel agent based in Denpasar.
Domestic Indonesian airlines are sometimes unreliable and I would certainly include Garuda in my assessment. Flight departures frequently change at the last moment, either ahead or earlier - sometimes more than one hour. Or the airport is closed for some unknown reason, e.g., Samulaki. Or flights are arbitrarily canceled. With a local Indonesian travel agent, they can reroute or easily reschedule your flight(s). They will txt you the departure changes, so you are good to go upon arrival or departure. I have spent the day rescheduling flights and it is not fun, trying make arrangements using funky cell phone coverage from a LoB. Even from LBJ to DPS, I have had my flight canceled.
