Nice report, I've always thought about tripping to the Solomons.

Great report mjh - the internet link here in Honiara is a bit slow for the gallery but I'll have another go later.

Caymaniac - you know you want to do it - just book it!

Thanks always hope these are helpful I know when we start researching our next trip we scour other divers reports. The gallery is big, I was not to selective so there are a lot of photos. I think it was Twain who said "I didn't have time to write you a short letter so I wrote you a long one", applies to galleries also.

Great report...Thanks

Great photos and report MJH. I noticed you have been to many great 5* sites/ But Sipadan and Red Sea are missing...

Gee, funny you mention that. We were talking about where to go in July. Right or wrong my wife is a little nervous about the Red Sea. If we travel that far we will have to do dryland, Egypt, etc... and being Americans well....

Komodo, Sipadan, Philippines, Sardine Run, Maldives, Western Australia, Humpback whales in Tonga or Silver Banks, are just a few that are still on the "list".

I will be in Maldives in 3 months. Looking real forward to a week's liveaboard followed by some more diving around Eriyadu via Euro Divers. As for Western Australia, that's right on my doorstep :)

Also a 'must do' dive is to visit Lembongan/ Nusa Penida for the infamous Mola Sunfish. Meeting up with them along with the 'Barracuda Tornado' at Sipadan has been the pinnacle moments of my diving.

My next future quest would be Thresher Shark dive in Malapuasca and Hammerhead Highway in Layang. But lets now work on the Whale Shark season in Maldives!

Thanks for the beautiful Solomons photos & trip review! I'm heading there in July and very excited. I'm a bit of a novice to underwater photography and have a couple of questions for you. I'm shooting a Canon 5D and will likely use a 100mm lens or a fisheye on all dives (any others you'd recommend?), along with two Inon strobes. I'm particularly impressed with your lighting. Any lighting tips you can offer, or books/websites that have been helpful to you in this regard?

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for the report & pictures~!

As a WWII Pacific history buff, Guadalcanal, Iron Bottom Sound and The Solomons are dive meccas still yet to be visited and are now at the top of my wish list. . .

And most of all, I would like to see & listen to the songs/hymns of the Melanesian Choirs (Choir of All Saints, Honiara).
