Hi,

New to the board and new to diving.
We have a trip booked to Cozumel Nov12th-22nd and it should be interesting. We have been there every year for 5 years now and love it. Sad that things are so bad down there. But if at all possible we are planning to go and spend our money down there. They desperately need it now.

Took a resort course last year with Allison and loved diving. Doing my book and pool work up here in Colorado Springs and plan to certify down there.

If anyone has info on hotels that made it through the storm, please post... or email me Elisa36@aol.com

Thanks!
Elisa

Hi Elisa,

If you post which hotel you are booked to stay at someone might know the specific condition of your hotel. If you go through the posts of the last few days you may also find info on your hotel. You'll also find through the posts that the island was completely devestated...there's links to pictures, etc. Most hotels were severely damaged (not all...but most). The road to the southern hotel zone is impassible (sp?). I'm not saying that you shouldn't go on your trip...Coz definitely needs our $$$...just make sure your hotel is still operational! Let us know where you are staying and maybe we can provide a little more info for you.

Yeah!!! It's so awesome to hear that sentiment. A group of us had a trip booked a couple weeks after Emily, and we felt exactly the same way as you do. We watched as Emily approached, and we all had the same sentiments. If there was running water and dive boats going, we would be there. Obviously the damage from Emily pales in comparision to the tragic destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Wilma. But it's attitudes like yours that will help rebuild it. I'm looking forward to your trip reports and pictures!

Welcome to the Scuba Board! I hope you have fun in you O/W class.

Some parts of Coz were hit harder than others. Check out our Cozumel forum for lots of info...

And don't be shy about posting. Click Forums above, tour the long list of choices, and jump in anywhere you're qualified. PM me with any questions, and I'll try to find a pretty good answer.

Our shop has a trip planned to Coz starting a few days before yours. None of the divers wants to go now and we're going to cancel it. We'll return in the spring but we see no reason to take chances.
