Before I switched from my Zeagle to my BP/W, I used to put 5# in each trim pocket and split the rest of my weight between my integrated weight pouches. My wife, on the other hand, prefers 3# on each side.

No clear rule of thumb, other than use what you're comfortable with in the water & on the surface. Remember on the surface a back inflate will push you forward a bit. It just takes a little getting used to.
