A nice Pirates week event:
====================================
Pirates Week is inviting interested divers to participate in yet another exciting Underwater Treasure Hunt to be held during the national festival scheduled for November.
A highlight of the weeklong activities marking Pirates Week, the Underwater Treasure Hunt is a favourite among local divers and snorkelers and even draws participants from overseas according to Pirates Week Director, Casandra Hibbert;
This may come as a surprise for many, but not only do we have treasure hunters right here in the Cayman Islands, but we also have individuals who visit our islands just to participate in this exciting adventure, she said.
Sponsored and hosted annually by Divetech in West Bay, this is an event not to miss for divers or snorkelers. Its the Underwater Treasure Hunt, where the reefs are strewn with coins to collect, and each coin has a matching prize with it! You can show up in pirates regalia but any ocean attire is appropriate. Following a briefing on the rules of engagement youll set off on a fantastic treasure hunt to find your coins and while youre at it, have a great dive or snorkel too, enjoying the clear, calm waters of our islands jewel.
The fund-raising event takes place this year on Sunday 15 November starting at 1:30 pm. The entrance fee is CI$20 and includes tanks, weights, snorkel equipment and snacks/soft beverages. Following the hunt, there will be a prize giving ceremony with over 80 great prizes from local businesses. Prizes include merchandise, gift certificates for tours, diving and attractions, retail, restaurant vouchers and more.
Its a great family event, from kids to seasoned pirates; all are welcome to come and have fun in the sun and sea, and get rewarded for your participation, Ms Hibbert said.
All funds received go towards the Pirates Week Committee and the Cayman Islands Tourism Association for community service work. Divetech donates all tanks and time to host the event.
Divetech and Cobalt Coast Dive Resort host and sponsor the Underwater Treasure Hunt each year.
Being a part of Pirates Week has always been rewarding to us, especially as it involves taking people into the ocean to see the magic and serenity of the underwater world, stated Nancy Easterbrook of Divetech.
The excitement is contagious as everyone heads to the water to find treasure coins and get rewards for their participation. From young to old, divers to snorklers, the turnout year after year has always been fantastic.
This is a great example of the community working hard at ensuring a great National Festival. This event encompasses a part of our history and culture, our marine life something that we would like to develop more in the future for our National festival. We thank Divetech and Cobalt Coast for their continuous contributions and tireless support, Ms Hibbert noted.
Reservations are not required for the event; interested persons can simply just show up at Divetechs new location on Northwest Point, West Bay by 1:00 pm. The prize ceremony will be at 4:00 pm. For more information, interested divers may call 946-5658.
The Pirates Week Festival is a not-for-profit event that is funded solely by community-minded companies and individuals in the Cayman Islands through sponsorships and fundraisers. The event is normally scheduled in November and is a celebration of the Cayman Islands history and culture.
