Hi

I suffered a small apical pneumothorax 3 years ago when some halfwit booted me in the ribs playing rugby and fractured more then they cared to count (I was lucky to escape without a flail chest quite frankly).

It resolved spontaneously (so no chest drain/decompression was required).

Anyway to the chase:

What does this mean in terms of being able to dive again? I really want to but am unsure of whether it is possible.

Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

Hi Bodie:

Since this was not a spontaneous pneumothorax, I will make a guess, that you can dive. We must let the medical writers answer this one, when they see it.

Traumatic pneumothorax (especially when associated with rib fractures) is not indicative of an underlying abnormality of the lung. If it has healed without sequelae, it should not impact your ability to dive.
