Transpac II Help Needed

I'm looking to purchase a Transpac but am wondering if I just need the Transpac and a wing or if I need more than that? Also, I like being weight integrated. Are the weights pouches for this easy to add and use?

I've done several searches on the board but haven't quite found what I was looking for so any help would be appreciated.

I'm a recreational diver with 50 dives if that helps. And I don't plan on doing any tech diving. And I'm 5'7", 160 lbs. and dive a 6.5mm semi-dry mostly in fresh water with a single AL80

A transpac and a wing will work fine, especially if you add weight pockets. I started with that setup and decided to switch to the harness and backplate. This takes 5 pounds off your belt, and provides a slightly more streamlined setup.

The weight pouches are quite easy to install and use.

I also use a Transpac. I bought the weight pouches and pockets. I found that I couldn't use both - there's not enough room on the belt. I use the Travel wing with a single tank - it's fine.

DiveRite has three sizes of weight pouches, but i found them excessively expensive and went with a different brand.

Plus, I would recommend the stainless steel back plate too.....plus the adjustable harness if you are sure you arent going tech

I also have TPII and I bought the trans weight 16 pouches. Twice my weights fell out. The first time was on an ocean dive and when I got out of the water Inoticed one of the inner pouches was gone. I bought a replacement..not cheap. The second time was in a deep spring. I had surfaced from a dive to 114ft and noticed the inner pouch missing. I went back down and found it at about 70 ft. Needless to say I was not happy with the weight pouch system.
I have since gone to a ssbp with continuous webbing with the DR Trek wing from my TPII. Love it. With my steel tanks I don't need any additonal weights.
I felt the TPII shifted around a bit on my back no matter how tight I adjusted the straps.

Were they the newer (6-12 mos ago) pouches? I don't remember mine having inner and outer pouches...

I agree with the backplate being the right way to go...

Smokaire, do have any clues as to why your weight pouches fell out? Was the velcro worn out, did they get repositioned mid-dive, were they overloaded? How about installed incorrectly, I've done that myself.

I also looked at the tp2 but ended up getting the oms-iqpack instead. Firts of all it fit me much better and your able to use a backplate with it if you like(its up to you). I did use a b/p with it cause i liked taking the 6# off my belt. I then got the Diverite reqwing-- i do like it but wish i had gotten the oxychecq 45ss series bladder -- that thing is NICE!..... As for weight i also like to be intergrated and looked all around-- i ended up with the halcyon acb weight system-- its 2 small pouchs that attatches to your belt and have quick release pockets for your weight-- really a nice system. Goodluck with your search.

ps-- if you get one-- the m/l would fit you well-- the xl it just way to big.

These were of the brand new design consisting of an outer pouch and an inner pouch with a velcro flap that folds over the outer pouch and attaches. The weight goes in the inner pouch and then that slides in the outer pouch.

I had 4lbs of weight in each pouch so the pouches were not overloaded. They were only about a month old.
I think the problem is the velcro the DR uses on the pouches isn't a strong as that found on the cumberbuns of BCs.
As far as I know I had installed them correctly. I was using soft weights...not sure if that contributed to the problem.
