I'm going to Playa in Jan. and I'm looking at several different hotel/dive options. Some have transfers from Cancun included with the package and some don't. How are the buses from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen? Are they friendly to someone with 50 lbs. of dive gear?

Don't know. I am going tomorrow and I will try to answer your question when I get back.

It worked well for us in August. Just make sure you bring plenty of $1 bills, and tip generously!

It was a smooth trip from the airport to Playa del Carma terminal.

The buses were nice. I was pleasantly surprised. They even play movies in English during the air conditioned drive in comfortable seats. My only complaint is the airport at Cancun. It's very busy with lots of loud people standing outside yelling to sell you something. You have to walk through those people to get to the buses. But it's a short walk and compared to other major airports like LAX it's really not that big a deal. Just be prepared when you exit the airport, especially if you're tired like I was at the time.

P.S. We were hauling dive gear and had no problem. Spent a few days in Playa and a few days in Cozumel. Good to have bags with wheels if you do a lot of walking like we did. I don't recall having to tip much...maybe just the guys who load your bags on the bus.
