What your opinion on a 13 yr old getting a trans plate for the ajustability. Idea behind it is, its cheeper to buy a new harness than a whole new BC.

Hi Joe21,

I think it depends on what is most comfortable and will keep a 13-year old diving (ie happy) in the water. If a metal backplate and harness is something that works with your dive environment and you get a good fit, then go for it! Many times, a metal backplate is too long for young kids and can poke into their hips and backs as they don't have as much flesh as us older folks do for padding. Something to consider.

However, please know that we do have a Kids Program on the TransPac. If you buy a TransPac, keep the receipt, register it on our website and we will replace it within 5 years of purchase to a brand new harness that will fit your child at whatever 'future' size he/she may be.

Most kids will start in a size XS, S TransPac and then end up in a M-XL by the time they are full grown. The XS-S size TransPacs have shorter backplates (soft backplates) that fit really well.

Check out the fitting videos in our BCD Solution Finder on our website for more information on getting a good fit (for a TransPac or a Transplate...the philosophy is the same).

I hope this helps,
Kathleen
