Hi Guys,

Just wondering. What toys and accessories do you guys have? What do you use them for, and what are your favourites.

I've heard of scuba shakers - which I have one myself (for getting attention) and IPODS for deco stops. Anything else I could/should put on my Santa's wish list? ;)

Cheers

Sahara Ear Dryer for my stupid ear infection

Sorry 'bout the ear infection. Do those ear dryers actually work?

Oh man! There's a good water-proof housinng for the iPod out there that is good beyond 10 ft? Where?

Must buy.

All kinds of accessories you can get as santa gifts.

Stocking Stuffer suggestions
  • Saftey sausage
  • Dive Alert
  • Save-A-Dive basic kit
  • Gloves
  • hood
  • mask defog / chemicals/ etc.
  • Line Cutter (knife, shears, or zip blade)
  • Dive Light.

Others feel free to reply and "add" to the list.

Mix 50% Isoprypyl Alcohol (plain old rubbing alcohol) and white wine vinegar. Pour into ear for 5 full minutes at the end of the day. Repeat with other ear.

Do this every day you dive and you won't get any more ear infections. Practically free, No batteries required, and no stupid hair dryer blowing in your ear. You may smell like a salad, though. :)

Neoprene mask straps make good gifts. So do surfer-style changing mats, if your friend (or you!) does a lot of beach diving. Glo-toob for night divers, or perhaps a UK Dive beacon. A nice selection of stainless steel bolt snaps and double-enders. Spring straps! (EZ Spring straps, about $32 at DiveSportsOnline) Z-Knife. Wet notes. Small Pelican box for their Save-A-Dive kit.

All of those should cost $25 or less, unless otherwise noted.

Lights, spools, reels, lift bags, camera housings, scooters, kayaks, emt shears, strobes, whistles, spears, catch bags, charts, magnetometers, slates, wrist mounts, inflator quick-release "hats", delrin backplate thumbwheels, stainless bolt snaps, towels, condom catheters, pockets, cookies, drying hangers... seriously, I think you might be the first diver I've ever heard say they needed help coming up with accessory ideas!

My personal favorite "accessory" is training. Unfortunately, the more you know, the more you're likely to want.

snip... scooters...
Underwater scooters... definitely on my wish list any X-mas :D. Also a couple of good fish / marine life identification books too (by Paul Humann, for example).

Ahh - one I just remembered was those duck quackers. (Or whatever they're called. Goes inbetween your inflator hose, and your bcd inflator port). Apparently makes a loud sound under and above water for attracting attention. Anyone got one of these, are they any good? (Too loud? :))

Thanks for the other ideas so far - Giving me some great ideas! Keep 'em comming. :)

Too loud? No, not really. Incredibly annoying to everyone in the water anywhere near you who you are NOT trying to communicate with? Yes. :D

Great for DMs leading groups, but I'm not a fan of diving in the same vicinity of someone using one, otherwise.
