Innovative. Good for the officials for catching him.

Now every scuba diver will be looked at as a mule.
I think I will start carrying a big plastic tube in my gear bag. I can try to roll my wetsuit up in it, and stuff my boots in it. If nothing else, it should be a conversation starter.

I say that that guy was a near genius. If he had been successful, he would have really messed with the traditional ways of getting something over the border.

I do not agree with it, but respect a thinker.

FAIL!

Swimming across dragging something.. doesn't sound very scuba-ish to me LOL

I would have just stuffed it all into a scuba tank and transfilled a few 100PSI into it and stuck a reg on it. (stage bottle anyone?).
Who's going to check inside a scuba tank with pressure in it that is breathable while on the surface?

*EDIT I do not condone doing this at all... just saying he wasn't that much of a genius...

hmmm.... big plastic tube carried by diver --- lionfish hunters beware the DEA.

I hope he wasn't a member here, it's bad enough his actions are reflecting bad on divers in general.

also Joe -- please don't give them any ideas -- we've got FWC watching us for lobsters etc... don't need the DEA watching us and demanding to drain the tanks and look inside at random checks.

LOL I don't think there's anything to worry about. Its not like it probably doesn't happen already somewhere somehow. You can't really bring back enough drugs in a tank for them to care about anyway... they're too busy watching for larger scores to care about some people shore diving in FL.

I didn't even think about the fact some people use tubes and such for the lionfish!!
"Sure officer, stick your hand in there... it ain't drugs!"

What was this clown doing on the surface if he was scuba diving? Didn't even have enough sense to weight the tube neutral and tow it under water?! Some people just choose the wrong line of work.
