I'm a Fish!
Here's a lionfish from Saturday's second dive...I have a few more that I want to get to of him but have to work first! But thought I'd tempt your tastebuds a bit

Enjoy:

Hi Alcina,
Great picture!
Hope you didn't get too close to the spines :)

Nice work,
Mike

Thanks, Everyone! He was a little rascal, but that gave me time to be ready for his pose :)

My set up on this dive (always remember, it isn't the tool, it's the artist!):
Subal housing and port
Canon 20D with Canon 60mm macro lens
maybe had Woody's dioptre on, I think so, but I took shots of him with and without
Single Inon 200s strobe
This is full frame.

My settings and workflow:
ISO 100
f 16
1/250
In ACR, I used the shadows slider to darken the background a bit. I moved the shadow slider to 5 - so it doesn't take much to tweak.

In retrospect, for this shot, I would have liked to have shot it at 1/320 and maybe even f18 or f20 to darken the background in situ...but that would have meant messing with the settings too much in an actively changing lighting situation and so I stuck it out with the basics. Since I only had to do a tiny tweak, I'm happy.

thank you for breaking it down and explaining your work. the lighting is exceptional.
Since you used a strobe, why was the changing ambient light a factor? So, had you made the shutter speed faster and the aperature smaller, your background would have been darker still, and your depth of field better and the fish a little darker? Why would you have wanted to increase the f-stop, result-wise?

It really looks amazing. Now, had I shot him in Program, I would have not had all the various planes of his dimensions in focus, I am guessing.
