Puhleez...Jim Lovell was my boss for two years. No diving but I heard some great stories about Apollo 8 and 13.

All astronauts spend a huge amount of time underwater in training. This is the easiest way to simulate zero gravity. They use all kinds of equipment underwater in the pool but almost always breathe Nitrox.

The training pool in Houston (Neutral Bouyancy Lab) is enormous- I recall 200 feet long, 100 feet wide and 40 feet deep. I've seen it close up and it is really impressive. When they need to simulate 'zero drag', (which is the problem in the pool), they go for a ride in the 'vomit comet'.
