Hey Ontarians! I'm pretty new to diving and will be in Toronto from July through September. My goal is to dive someplace in Southern Ontario every week or every other week if I can. Both weekends and mid-week are possible. But I don't have a buddy network in the area as yet, so it seems like joining a club might be the way to go - to take part in some organized weekend trips.

Through web searches I've found one in Scarorough (suci.ca), a couple in Etobicoke (oescuba.com, euc.ca), - and in central Toronto there are some operated by dive shops. All have similar events lined up for the summer months, some differences in locations (scuba2000 makes a trip to Parry Sound which I didn't see on other calendars).

Before I become a dues-paying member of one of these clubs and sign up for a series of weekend trips in advance before they fill up, I'm interested in getting some feedback from you guys. Would like to know if anyone has recommendations on a club ? Or, maybe meeting dive buddies and forming small groups for local trips here on scubaboard or other online forums works for you ?

Cheers!

- John

Hi John, where in Toronto will you be staying? The GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is huge! There are tons of dive clubs and you are right, if you want to get lots of dive time joining a club is this is the best way.You want a club reasonably close to where you are. Let us know where you are staying.

Hey Simcoe. Staying in the Beaches - Queen St. E.

Most of the clubs have a social night, not in the water. Why not call or email to see if you can meet some of the people and see if you are like minded and feel comfortable in a social sense before you dive with them

Check this club out, its one of the biggest in toronto and its close to you, they have access to a 16' pool every thursday night and also do a night dive in Humber bay( its just up Lakeshore drive from you) every wed night. They have tons of excellent trips planned for this year too.
Check it out. http://www.ontario-underwater-explorers.org/
