Hi I am headed to TO and have Aug. 11 to dive. I would like to stay south not the tub this trip. I have my own gear. Can someone point me in a good direction. I will drive up to an hour and a half. thanks kevin

As for the 1.5 hour rule, you have ruled out almost all of the decent diving (free shore dives that is) IMO. (within 1.5 hours) In Toronto, you have Humber Bay. In Barrie you have Big Bay Point and The Morrison. I am not sure what else is really available that does not constitute a cess pool.

You could hook up with one of the Oakville/Burlington/Toronto shops and go out with them. I know a couple do weeknight trips to the Sligo and possibly other wrecks. If you drove 3 hours you would open up Tobermory and Kingston/Brockville which are both much more impressive diving IMO. Are you looking for shore or boat dives?

EDIT.......another good option for you is to open an account on www.ontariodiving.com and post something there. There are more local members on there than here so the response for this area specifically may be better.

Thanks, I may have to go 2hrs.:D I can leave TO early enough I guess to get to the tub, but the drive back for 5pm would make it feel like work. Boat or shore doesnt matter. Brockville is what I was thinking, how long of a drive is it from east TO. Thanks for the info Scubasteve.

The time it will take to get you to Brockville from Toronto depends heavily on where in TO you are and how fast you drive. For a rough number, the attached says almost 4 hours but you can go to Kingston and dive there while shaving almost an hour off the drive.

What kind of diving do you like? Are you interested in shore dives where miscellaneous stuff has been sunk to see? These places you are pretty much in the water for the love of being in the water. Are you a die hard wreck diver? TTBOMK the only "good" wreck diving is Kingston/Brockville or Tobermory or Lake Erie. Lake Erie is VERY unreliable from a weather conditions standpoint but could probably be driven to in 2 hours max. Tobermory would be 3 hours and you've seen brockville/kingston.

Shore diving where you are in the water and loving just being in the water is accessible in TO, Wiarton, Barrie (I would recommend staying away from all quarries as they really are not worth admission). I can point you to several specific shore sites if that si what you are considering.
