I just posted a pic of the Topo map for Kootenai County. This should give you an idea as to why we are so busy at times. Lots of water surrounded by lots of mountains.
Two cities (Post Falls & Coeur dAlene) have there own police departments. They normally have three on per shift. The rest of the county is covered by us and we normally have three on, four on a fat night. That puts a total of 9 on for 1400 Sq. miles and 130K people. The city guys don't leave the cities unless it is a life or death situtation for us.
A lot of our smaller lakes are hard to see in the pic. It's a little better if you click on it and make it bigger.
