First off, I had demo'd a rental X-Flex Seaquest wetsuit, and I like it really well, the semi-dry construction kept me warm even though the rental was a size too big. So I got that, hood and gloves.
And also, I got my air gear. Apeks ATX50 w/ ATX40 Octo, and Vyper computer w/ compass.

The dive shop let me put it on layaway, so I can come and take the gear out for dives whenever I want, I just have to bring it back to them until I finish payments.

I went a little over my budget on my gear today, but hey, its just money, I can always make more!! ;)

Oh yeah, I also finally finished my PADI OW class last weekend. For my checkout dives it was just me and the instructor, so it was nice to not have to chase other students all over the place.

Congratulations!!!! Like the gear set up. If you're feeling a little light headed, read my signature. It's the only thing that got me thru it.
And you don't even need a place to stow your gear at home yet.
Happy diving

Actually you are right about storing the gear at home. Two problems with storing it here, 1) There is no room in the closet for a Full wetsuit and 2) Parents will b**ch and moan about me spending "all this money"

Congrats on your cert and on having your own gear. Now you just need to take a road trip down to South Florida to run your stuff through its sea trials...

My justification is that now I can dive without confronting a $50+ rental tab. So I'll dive more, I'll dive better, I'll have a familiar setup, and the stuff will pay for itself in a couple years. Tally-ho!

$50 just gets you on the boat down here. If you have to rent, you're looking at $75 to $100 depending on what you need. Owning your own is the way to go. Sounds like you made some good choices on your gear. You must taken some advice from Scubaboarders. :)

Excellent choice of regs and computer (as long as its on wrist not console!)

I dive the TX50/TX40 combination and they are very good.

And after a few more dives, you can do the U-1105, right there in the Potomac! (I've wanted to dive it for a while, but have never found the time.) :crafty:

Actually.............the computer is on a console, because im really good at losing stuff. From what I read, I can get a wrist strap and set it up that way if I so choose, but for now its sitting above the contents gauge.
