I wanted to scuba dive my entire life but thought I had waited too long. I'm 59 and did Discover Scuba and Open Water Certification this summer with no problems. My dive buddy is almost ten years older than I am. If you can get a good clearance from a doctor who knows you will, then happy diving!

61 is not old at all for diving. I'd say it's pretty typical in fact. The cost of gear, travel, and diving itself keeps it out of reach for most young people. And even if you have trouble moving around with the tank and weights and whatnot, you'll find you condition to it quickly. I'm only 5'3" and 115lbs and I'm able to maneuver around with all my equipment on no problem. Do some strength training and/or core exercises if you find it difficult.

I started at age 51 and am 64. Can still do everything, just slower.
