Just returned from Tofo and Krueger Park and many thanks to those who offered advise on setting up this trip. We used Elna at Shark Alley/Scuba Mozambique (Shark Alley Dive Travel Specialist web site and elna@sharkbookings.com) to book the trip and she was great. Sometimes a little slow to get back by email but always did and booked us a trip beyond expectations with minimal glitches. We dove through Tofo SCUBA, a top notch PADI operator with a very safe operation. I highly recommend them. While the dive masters don't want to be your best buddy, they are extremely professional and know the sites well, including where the interesting critters are hanging out. Diving in Tofo was better than expected. Whale sharks were prevalent and apparently there year round. You typically snorkel with the whale sharks, and the whale shark snorkel adventure was amazing in itself. Came across mantas on several SCUBA dives and had a highlight of a pair of humpbacks with a calf swim by on one dive. Were there in early spring and the water was pretty cold with limited visibility on several dives, but still very nice. One of the requirements of vacations for me and my wife, who is not a diver, is that I can dive and she can ride horses. Elna set my wife up with a horseback outfit just down the road from Tofo SCUBA and the riding was world class, galloping on the beach and riding through remote villages.
The second part of the trip, also set up by Elna, was a safari (photo) in Krueger Park, South Africa. I can't say how great this was, seeing the big five all on day 1 plus cheetah, elephants, hippos, etc. Stayed at Grand Krueger Lodge in Marloth Park, which is just across the Krocodile river from Krueger park. A great place to stay and runs great safari tours! Food was excellent and the service was amazing. I can't recommend it enough. Leon owns the lodge and is a great host. Giraffes walking by while swimming in the pool, zebra in the road, and wart hogs at the bungalows. A short walk to the river where the wildlife is again amazing!
All in all a fantastic adventure.
