Well, in about 1 hour, I'm off to the LDS to buy my first set of gear! I'm am extremely excited! Does anyone have any last second suggestions for a newbie?
I've got about $2500 to blow....I'm assuming that should get me some decent equip? Or am I just blowing smoke out of my *****....?:D

have you been reading and have an idea of what you want?

Yes, I've been doing my homework. It's going to be a combo of my research, your input and what the super-nice-honest girl at the LDS suggests (and I really mean that about the girl at the LDS)

because imo you don't need that much $$ and it would sure be easy to get carried away.

of course, this being scubaboard i have to say look at a backplate & wings. BUT they are very comfy even though they don't look like it.

think about how everything will fit together to give you a non-dangly, streamlined, horizontal profile. no need to go for a huge expensive knife. be aware of the pros and cons of paddle, straight, and split fins. most regs are fine for most divers. think about it before buying an octo integrated into the inflator - would you be able to breathe off it while using the inflator?

then, don't worry. when you re-buy everything in a few months, you can ebay what you're getting today. :D

lets see you christmas list !

Get a DIN fitting on your reg no matter what the nice girl says.

Don't buy cheap sh...stuff. Your budget should get you what you want.

And if you have any money left over, sign up for a course.

Have fun!

2500 will get you a great system. Ask what they'll throw in when you get a complete system.

The only initial purchase I made that I regret was an ill fitting wetsuit that the sales person told me fit because they really did not have my size.

dir's not taboo. it's just a system that some folks love.

i've rebought everything except my regs, and they're next so i can have din instead of yoke. ok, and mask - i still have my original mask. but i tried on a great one the other day, so we'll see...

think about what diving you plan to do, buy to that, and don't let the fact that you have the money in your hot little hands right now influence you more than you can help.
